Everything here is computed live in your browser. There is no video. The ink is simulated, the music is synthesized as it plays, and the water answers your hand.

Water: Incompressible Navier–Stokes on a GPU grid: semi-Lagrangian advection and a Jacobi pressure solve (Stam, Stable Fluids, 1999), vorticity confinement (Fedkiw, Stam & Jensen, 2001), MacCormack advection for the ink (Selle et al., 2008). Ink is heavier than water, so it sinks and curls.
Gathering: A driving force along a blurred target’s gradient steers the ink into each character, adapted from Fattal & Lischinski, Target-Driven Smoke Animation (2004).
Strokes: Outlines and medians from Make Me a Hanzi (Arphic Public License), via hanzi-writer-data. Characters with stroke data are written in standard stroke order; the brush runs dry as it goes and reloads at each character.
Light: Shafts marched toward a light above the tank, shadowed by the ink (after Mitchell, GPU Gems 3, ch. 13).
Music: Additive guqin-like plucks on an E 羽 pentatonic. Each stroke’s height picks its note; its direction bends the pitch. The drone’s filter follows the water’s measured kinetic energy.
Voice: Fish Audio s2.1-pro, public voice “纪录片男声”. Words you write use the same Fish voice, with generated audio cached for replay.
Translation: A few exact words come from a dictionary. Other entries use GPT-6 Luna via OpenRouter. Text and generated audio are cached on this demo’s server; please avoid personal information. Enter one meaningful English word or 1–4 meaningful Chinese characters. Chinese entries keep their original characters and receive an English explanation. Nonsense, explicit sexual content and abusive wording are declined.
